Hi Marcia & Peter,

Your commission is finished! I’m very pleased with it and I hope you are, too

Your finished Commission: Paris Market, gouache, 8×10”.

I like how Peter and Courtney stand out, while the artists, easels and holiday decorations in the background really convey the moment. I think the colors I’ve chosen make it feel like a cool grey December day.

This is my composite photo. You can see I had to make up legs for Peter and Courtney and remove that pesky guy in the center who is blocking our view of the artwork. : )

So what are your thoughts?

At this point, I can usually make any small changes you need. If you’re satisfied, then I’ll go ahead and protect your painting with a spray varnish and then frame it. I will be ready for pick up in about a week.

I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Best,

Linda

Marcia & Peter,

This is your webpage, where we’ll communicate about your commission. Thanks for all the photos you sent. I’ve used them to create this value sketch to show you my idea for your painting of the market in Montmartre: It will be 8x10 “ in gouache on paper, mounted on board, and framed.

Value sketch for your painting. Peter and your daughter will be on the left looking at the artwork, with an artist sketching on the right. In the background on the right and left I will indicate easels and people so we have a sense of the market. I’ll also indicate a bit of the Christmas decorations to add to the atmosphere. This will all be one very loosely.

This is the main photo I used. I like the colors and shapes of the buildings in the background, and& the umbrella and display in the foreground.

I used the figure of the artist on the far right, removed the hood, and flipped it to make it face the direction I needed.

I used Peter and your daughter from this photo, and flipped her to make her face the direction I needed. I also made Peter look down a bit instead of up.

So now, I could use a bit more information to inform my drawing.

  • Do you have any photos of Peter and your daughter (name please?) standing side by side, so I can see their full figures?

  • Do you have any photos of your daughter looking off to the side? I’d like to show them both looking towards the display. While I won’t be going into any detail on their faces, it will still help me to have a better sketch.

Please send me any photos that would help, and let me know if you have any comments on the value sketch.

I think this will make a wonderful painting and I’m looking forward to getting started!

Best,

Linda
